day 30 - big: count your blessings

31 Days Index

Counting our blessings. Viewing our lives with a positive outlook. Trusting the Lord. I believe that ALL of us should be more intentional about doing these things every single day. Look at this promise in Scripture (Ephesians 3:20):

This is one of my most favorite and  treasured verses. The verse ends with "...according to the power at work within us." The Lord living within us pushes our lives to the extreme. So extreme that it's exceedingly abundantly more than we could ask or think!!! THAT IS AMAZING! Exceedingly abundantly. Wow.

Sometimes I feel like we don't realize how exceedingly abundantly blessed our lives are already. A couple of weeks ago, Mark and I sat in our den, enjoyed a glass of wine paired with some John Mayer tunes, and we just talked about things that were going well for us. Even the little things. It was so humbling to think about how greatly God has blessed us -- certainly beyond what we could have ever asked for or thought.

Captured the moment. Count your blessings. :)

Whether you're in a peak or a pit in life...cling to this verse. If you're on a peak: PRAISE HIM! If you're in a pit: PRAISE HIM EVEN STILL!...and trust and KNOW that through the power of the Holy Spirit, God can do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY MORE than you could ever dream of.

Believe it, darlings. It's Truth.

(P.S...How awesome is this pillow? I stumbled upon it while writing this post. Wish list status over here.)

  2. Isn't that the truth, that when we stop and thank God for the countless blessings in our lives, that we see how unbelievably blessed we are?! He is SO good!! I just love Thanksgiving and the reminder to stop and be thankful. This next month I look forward to being intentional about being thankful. It needs to last longer than a month, but this is a great place to start.

  3. So uplifting. I'm constantly having to remind myself to praise him in the storm. Because I know a beautiful lesson is going to come from Him and I'll be better for it. I love that you and your man sat and talked with music and wine. No tv distractions. That's so nice!

  4. Another encouraging post - love this! Completely agree, praise Him in the peaks & the pits. Part of my devotion this morning was Psalm 96:2-4 "Sing to the Lord, praise His name; proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is The Lord & greatly to be praised..."

  10. Seriously. Get to England like now and lets double date stat!!!!

I love that you two chat up your blessings - that's amaze and oh-so good. S and I often do the same and in those moments a sense of grace and mercy washes over you, it's amazing what an incredible God we serve, and one, that continues to love and continues to show himself even when we fail!

Love to you my dear! Expect an email lata! ;)

  11. Love that pillow! I've been looking for the perfect phrase to do some embroidery with for the Holidays, and I think that's it! On another note, I couldn't agree with you more. Not that I judge anyone, but I personally don't like to posts like "wish lists" or "what I want Wednesday" - although it's fun, I feel like posting a list of things you want *every* week (or even more often than that!) is just...not exactly right, when what we should really be doing every week (and day) is reflecting on the things we have and are grateful for :)

  14. Sometimes it's easy to think about what isn't going so great instead of all that is- hubby and I like to say "Thankful prayers" throughout the day to help remind us how blessed we are. Love this post!

  15. Amen! I always remember the song by Casting Crowns: "And I'll praise You in this storm, I will raise my hands, You are who You are, no matter where I am".....right now I look at the mess we are in and the deadlines that are coming quickly and my human self worries to no end, finds tears swelling up and then I remember this is nothing...not a thing! This is a blippit in the big picture. I am blessed. I am alive, breathing, experiencing, praising! My issues right now are blessings and I just have to set my mind right and up to see that I am taken care of and worry is unnecessary. Thank you Elise!
