Sex, Love, and Marriage

Source: Cheers Y'all "Reflecting Purpose in Your Home"
Imagine: What would our society be like if we actually practiced sex the way God designed? What social problems would be eliminated or significantly reduced if we did sexuality God's way?

"[Let's] place ourselves under the authority of the Bible. We don't read the Bible and try to interpret it for our own selfish lusts and desires. If you're a follower of Jesus, immediately you must place yourself under the Scripture and let it interpret you."

Christians: It's very easy to go in the Scripture for our favorite passages...and not the ones that God has written for our life. Nourish your mind with ALL of Scipture. Not just on your favorite topic but all of it.

As Christians: Why are we not pursuing purity as a priority?

Stop catering to culture and renew your mind through Truth. [See Romans 12:2]
It's about hating the sin not the sinner.
The power of Jesus can change anybody.

The words above are quotes I jotted down while listening to the current sermon series from Forest Hill, my hometown church in Charlotte. Yes, the sermon series--titled "The Birds and the Bees and the Bible"--is about sex, marriage, and love.

Y'all know I like to keep it "real" on here. So why not include topic that is everywhere we turn in our overly sexualized culture? So far I've only touched on this briefly in my 6 Things I Wish I Knew Before Marriage post with Cassie from True Agape.

Think I am absolutely bonkers?! That's okay! I challenge you (in love!)  to listen! :)

(Note: The sermon from this Sunday, 2/16 will be added at some point this week!)

I am up-to-date on this sermon series and would love to dialogue with you more about sex, marriage, love, and what God has to say about all of it!

Please know, sweet friends, I am no expert nor do I consider myself one. I have a multitude of sins and struggles in this department. I battle a case of daddy wounds and have fears that I [unfairly] project on Mark as a child of a recent divorce. But there is Good News!! Though Jesus we ALL have grace, forgiveness, wholeness, acceptance, truth, and redemption. He loves us so much.

Let's walk together as we pursue and follow Jesus.

  3. I'm so glad you decided to share this today! As Christians, we have a responsibility to do our best to follow God's word in all areas of our lives - not to just 'cherry pick' the parts we like the most. Of course we all sin and fall short, but the good news is that perfection is not what He expects. Thank you for being so open with your sweet heart today!

  10. Hey, Elise! I'm not sure if you remember me finding you a little while ago through the NC bloggers group. I live in Charlotte and attend Forest Hill. And yes, I loved this sermon series! You'll especially love Sunday's sermon as special guests and fellow Forest Hill members Emily Maynard and her new fiance discuss finding God's definition of love especially in the wake of Emily's trying out the world's definition through the Bachelor/Bachelorette appearances. They have such a sweet love story in which they met through one of Forest Hill's community outreach programs! :-)

  12. Great post today! You really got me thinking and examining my life, my choices and most importantly my excuses. In our world today it's hard to follow all of God's words in all aspects of our lives but then again isn't that the biggest excuse of them all... "Times have changed". Thanks for sharing and getting my thinking and examining my life and daily choices.

  18. Love what you said about not cherry picking what we want out of the bible to suit ourselves!! There is so much on this topic I wish I would have spared myself from, but it's not that I cherry picked, I just refused to make Jesus my Savior til I was 23. Thankful that he can redeem all those past mistakes though!! So glad you stopped by my blog today...already loving yours!! :)
